It’s Only a Phase

There are days I think I am in the running for the “Mom of the Year.”

I am quite impressed with myself sometimes.

So much so that on really good days I imagine….

….as I leisurely stroll through the aisles of Wal-mart dressed to the nines,

with my obedient,

neat-as-a-pin children skipping and (of course) holding hands behind me….

….I imagine that I’m going to be spotted by staffers from the Dr. Phil show.

You see, those Dr. Phil staffers are trained….trained to spot pure motherly goodness at its best.

And they will quickly and with great fanfare whisk me away to Chicago….or New York….or Las Vegas or wherever they film the Dr. Phil show.

And upon determining my general fabulous skill-set as a mother….

….immediately ask me to come up on stage to recieve my trophy.

All of the world’s eyes on me.

Mom of the Year.

And as I stand there…..hands outstretched…..ready to recieve all the praise and adulation that comes with my new title…..

…..someone will stand up in the audience waving this….

….and my dreams of glory and a starring role on the remake of “The Waltons” will come to a screeching halt.

Security team?

Walkie talkies and sunglasses and notebooks filled with top secret information?

What was it my blonde-haired, blue-eyed, smocked-dress wearing, tea-cup holding twins that brought upon this?

Too many late night episodes of Charlie’s Angels on TV Land?

Too much Sonny with a Chance?

I’m so sorry Dr. Phil and crew….

….please keep my Mom of the Year Trophy shined and ready….

….I’m sure this is only a phase.

  1. You better find that file and destroy it. You don’t know what tidbits they have collected on you. I’d hate to see you blackmailed when they hit 16.

  2. heehee! send ’em on over…they can join my ‘top secret’ crew!
we even have night vision goggles, secret decoders, and fingerprinting supplies.
    OH MY! 😉

    blessings to you!

  3. I don’t know… sisters. Playing together? Giggling instead of bickering until you want to implode so help me God? I think you are still winning. Totally 🙂 Keep up the good work soldier. ❈

  4. ha ha!!! they are so cute!!! i love watching my kids ply together- the other night my car broke down, hubby was away, and we were stuck… a very nice man drove us home and we were off to a rather late start for dinner…. my kids were so good while i made dinner and i heard them in the playroom saying to each other “you’re going to hollywood!”. they were playing american idol. it cracked me up!

  5. This is one of the most adorable posts I have ever read!..Treasure them every moment for time passes so quickly and you look back and say, “where the heck did the time go” as you watch your child say his vows to his bride..(sniff, sniff..where is a tissue when you need it! ) Yes, a phase, but what a cute phase..Their imaginations never cease to amaze you…In their eyes, you are already, “Mommy of the Year”..and that is all that counts!…

  6. Computers, cell phones and spy-shades aside, they’d still attract my attention as I leisurely walk down the aisles of Walmart! They couldn’t be any cuter in their traditional smocked dresses and Mary Janes. 🙂 Who knows, maybe Dr. Phil will want them for HIS security team!

  7. Very cute and I love the photos! I’m sure you are an amazing mom, even if you are just now learning to bake bread 🙂 How is it coming by the way? I posted about the challenge again today, it’s my journey to the Possible.
    Hugs, Cindy

  8. I have twins, too–a boy and girl about to turn 14. Every rare once in awhile they still “play” together, and I treasure it. And they’ll still call upon “twin power” once or twice a year–shorthand for “We’re combining forces and ganging up on you!” Thanks for the meander down memory lane!

  9. I feel your pain. Yesterday, I crafted and played with my daughters, fed them healthy snacks, made bathtime cool with coloured water…oh, I was goooood. Today. To start off, I may or may not have been a wee bit cranky, and now my 7.5 year old informed me that she’s written a short story on Vampires, called Vampire Bite. Wha???? Where did that come from? How about a story on ponies, or fairies, or princesses? I don’t allow my newly self declared goth child to embark in all things supernatural, so why? why? I guess I’ll have to use my usual scapegoat…kids at school. Your daughters look like angels =). Next my daughter will want to dye her hair black and wear black nailpolish. ugh.

  10. -chuckle- Awwwwwwwwwwwww… Real and Cute, beat purrrrrfect and holding hands and skipping along behind Mommy, any day. :-))))))))))))

  11. oh dear. it’s posts like this that make me realize my utopia is another woman’s “bad day.” oh well…..i’ll go drag my kids out of their wrestling match. If I move quickly, only one will end up with a black eye. your girls are adorable.

  12. That is sweet..I will send my eight year old down. He and his buddies play some cop chase game on their bikes and scooters, I will be sure to tell him to teach them that:))

  13. Sounds like you are doing a fabulous job, Dr Phil show or not! They are adorable!
Enjoyed all the eye candy from the last post. And love the idea of the rack for prize ribbons! You rock, mamma!

  14. What fun! As others have said: treasure the memories and the moments…soon they’ll be teenagers and then the fun will really start!!!
How’s the bread making going? I hope it’s better than my crocheting which is laughable!
