I know December has come and gone.
I know Valentine’s Day is on the horizon.
I know the neighbors are talking.
Seriously.
I know.
I also know you were thinking…..
“What is the statute of limitations for Christmas decorations?”
I see. I really do.
I understand this shameful display of wanton disregard for the timely removal of seasonal decor is beneath a card carrying member of the Livingston Literary Society….
……but can’t we just overlook it this one time?
Let’s just concentrate on “The Help” and forget this little embarrassment ever happened.

Karianne, you started by morning with a smile. How about we declare January 31 as the statute date? That will work for you, won’t it?
I don’t understand why our Christmas decorations need to come down so soon. Especially when you base your decorations more on Winter. It’s STILL Winter, isn’t it. Lovely pictures, lovely post!!
Well…….why not just replace the bells, balls and Santas with hearts and flowers on wreaths and trees and make them Valentine’s Day decor. After all it is still winter and a little snow is still expected. What a waste of time and energy to totally redo all of these. Remember, I totally hate wastefulness. Drive by soon to see my Christmas/Valentines/St. Patty’s Day decor. All of the reds and greens are lovely.

Oh no! Don’t tell me that you’re one of “those” people! My neighbor across the street still has her Christmas wreath on her front door too and I just keep waiting and waiting until she figures out she hasn’t removed it yet. Ha!
LOL! I agree with Beverly. Jan 31st! I just started taking everything down yesterday. I have an excuse! Ha ha. Our dining room redo caused the furniture to blockade the tree. Furniture is back in so the tree was finally revealed. Sigh. Now, what’s my excuse for the OUTSIDE? :0)

Everything else Christmas is packed away. And replaced with Valentine stuff. 🙂
But we still haven’t figured out how to *wrap the tree,* so we can simply put it up in an unused bedroom……… All ready to come down again, next Christmas.
But……… Lots of red on our little tree. So it fits in with the Valentines. -giggles-

No statue of limitations! A neighbor leaves her tree up year round! She’s the first house in the neighborhood with a huge window and a Christmas tree! Her garland (inside) stays up too! I call that secure in herself! 🙂

Here’s my opinion. It’s your house, isn’t it? Who cares what anyone else thinks. I’m saying this as I look at the dust bunnies on my furniture 🙂
Hi Karianne, I’m new to your blog and I’m not sure if you really do have a book club? As far as the wreath and red bow, why does that have to be a Christmas decoration? Evergreens are green year round and red bows are perfect for Valentine’s day. I say leave it until the needles fall off. You may want to change the bow color. You could change out the red now for a blue, put the red back on next month, a bright green for March, etc. .. Oh and I have finished reading the Help and I have seen the movie. When I was a kid selling girl scout cookies, one house still had their tree up (in the Spring) and told me they kept it up all year – it was easier that way! If you do that, I’ll start to worry, but this is nothing! Read “The Help” and just saw the movie the other night. Loved (book better of course).

Your Christmas Past decorations are going to haunt you if you don’t remove them! 🙂 I still have my outdoor Christmas decor in the flower boxes and the lights still get turned on every evening. Most of my neighbors even have their Christmas trees up because of the Ukrainian Christmas being two weeks later than when most people celebrate. So when we drive down our street at night it’s still all lit up, I love it! I’m so happy I get to live in an Ukrainian area.

Funny! I make a little game of driving around at Easter and seeing how many Christmas wreaths I can count! In Minnesota, where it is COLD, decorations tend to stay up a little longer…but thankfully, we took the obviously Christmas things down already and just have a winter look now!
I’m proud to say that we took down our Christmas tree and greenery right after the new year. And placed it all on the back patio, where the Christmas tree still stands, oddly visible through the back door, pouring needles all over patio. Hey, one step at a time, right?
Ahh, let’s never mind. It’s so beautiful to look at, and it’s all good, my friend! Holiday decorations still grace our home, making it cozy on winter evenings. And, I am in it up to my neck with many of my friends! In fact, we are still making our ‘Christmas rounds’ as this Christmas just seemed to fly right by us…We are all continuing to have great fun with it.
Even my blog still looks like a Christmas card – Excuse/reason: I just returned to work after having been on medical leave for awhile, and I just haven’t had the oomph to spend time in the evenings to take down the Christmas on ‘IT’, but I imagine that will all change in the next week or so…Isn’t it funny, though, how I feel that I have to explain it. Haha
I do ove a little Christmas at any time of year. After all, it IS a state of mind/heart…

My wreath is still upon the front door minus its red ribbon, but it looks like winter to me. I’d not mind seeing Christmas whenever I find it.
I remember when my girls where little they would nag me from the 1st November to put up the decorations and then get upset when I took them down the first week of January so I would often leave them up till closer to the end of the month, now I can do what I want………Sometimes it feels like we don’t have time to take them down and pack the away neatly and if we do it when we don’t have the time we end up not packing away neatly………………..or is that just something I would do……….

you are too funny! I actually managed to get my decorations down the first week of January this year, but last year I’m pretty sure I still had them up in March! As far as I’m concerned, I would keep them up year ’round because they’re just so pretty to look at but I can see why any visitors would question my judgement on that one;)

Looks like we’re all in the same boat. I just took our Christmas deco down this morning. 🙂
With the advent of college algebra last year, I declared Good Friday to be the absolute LAST day to take down Christmas decorations, and Good Friday found me frantically taking down the tree at 10pm. You’re fine. You have months of time before the grace period runs out.
OOOOPS! I thought my wreath said, “Winter.” I just took it down for Valentine’s Day. That should make you feel good.
I loved both the book and the movie of The Help. I’m sure you had some great discussions.
No worries, the Christmas decorations police will not come and arrest you…

Can I confess I still have candles in my windows? I’m sure the whole street thinks I have checked out, but I love the glow at night, and it is like being a kid who NEEDS the nightlight on….. hahaha.
They will come down on Saturday night when we do the spring forward with the clock. My way of thumbing my nose at the darkness of winter.
